There are techniques that you can do to get backlinks and there are techniques that you must do. RSS feeds are definitely a must. It takes little time and you get set for constant flood of backlinks from very diverse traffic sources.
Once you set up your site, submit your RSS feed to all directories you can find. You only have to do it once. The way it works is that there are a lot of sites out there that aggregate content from RSS feeds and from each entry they publish you get a backlink.
One thing to beware, though. Don’t post your entire content to the feed, only post an excerpt. Otherwise your whole content will be published all over the web and that’s a potential duplicate content issue.
If you’re using WordPress, you can set that in Settings, under Reading, “For each article in a feed, show” choose Summary.
