The number of outgoing links per page is an important metric. Too many links can render a backlink useless even if the PR of the page is high itself.
This is a very often overlooked aspect of link building so I feel like it deserves a dedicated post. Far too many inexperienced marketers think that PR is all that matters regardless of other metrics that a page has. Don’t underestimate the importance of link density.
Every time you consider getting a link from a page with PR, consider how many outgoing links there already are. Kepp in mind that every link gets its share of PR and if there are many of them, the PR your link gets will be very diluted.
The fewer the links the better, and you should not even consider links from pages with 100 or more links on them.
